Page & Salt is a shared index of physical cookbooks, built by the people who own them. These terms are the agreement between you and the person who makes it. They are short, and every line is meant to be read.
Who makes it
Page & Salt is made by George Ife-Alabi, an individual developer based in the United Arab Emirates. There is no company behind it. Write to hello@forestocean.app.
Claiming a handle
You can use Page & Salt without claiming a handle. The first time you add a book, you choose one. Claiming a handle is how you accept these terms.
Your handle is the only name you have here, and it appears on everything you contribute. You can change it once. You must be at least 13 years old to claim one.
Your library, and the catalogue
Page & Salt has two halves, and they behave differently.
Your library is yours. Your shelf, your notes, your ratings, your cook journal and its photographs live in your own iCloud storage. They are not shared and they are not readable by the developer. That is how the app is built, not a promise of restraint.
The catalogue is everyone's. When you add a book the catalogue does not hold, or index a recipe inside one, those records join a shared catalogue every reader can see, carrying your handle as a credit.
Contributions to the catalogue are public and permanent. If you delete your account your handle is freed and your credit resolves to Anonymous contributor, but the book records, recipe entries and cover photographs stay. They belong to the catalogue rather than to you. This is worth knowing before you contribute, which is why it is said here and again when you claim your handle.
What belongs in the catalogue
Page & Salt indexes books. It does not reproduce them.
Contribute the title, author, edition and ISBN of a book; the name of a recipe and the page it is on; times, servings, equipment and ingredients.
Do not contribute method text, headnotes, introductions or any other writing copied from the book; photographs of a book's pages; a photograph of anything other than the cover of the book in your hands; or anything you did not enter yourself and have no right to share.
The cover photograph you take stays yours. By contributing it you allow it to appear in the catalogue permanently, credited to your handle, and to Anonymous contributor after you delete your account.
What is not tolerated
There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive readers.
Do not contribute anything obscene, hateful, threatening or defamatory. Do not harass anyone. Do not impersonate anyone, or take a handle meant to offend or mislead. Do not deliberately enter false book or recipe information. Do not attempt to break, scrape or overload the app.
Reporting
Report sits in the menu on a community-added book, an indexed recipe and a contributor's profile. It opens a short sheet: a reason, an optional note, and your own mail app.
Reports are read and acted on within 24 hours. Content that breaks these terms is removed, and the handle behind it loses the ability to contribute.
Blocking
You can block a contributor from their profile. Books they have added leave your search, their cover photographs are suppressed and the book falls back to its plain binding, and their name goes quiet on recipe credits.
Blocking never touches your own shelf. Books you already own stay, and the recipes indexed inside them stay — those rows are the book's index, not the blocked person's posts.
Your blocklist is private, it syncs across your devices, and the person blocked is never told.
The catalogue can be wrong
It is built by readers, so a page number may be off or an edition mismatched. Page & Salt is a companion to the books on your shelf, not a substitute for them.
The app is free, and given as it is
Page & Salt costs nothing and is provided as it is, without warranty. As far as the law allows, the developer is not liable for any loss arising from using it. Nothing here takes away rights you have under the law where you live.
Ending it
You can delete your account at any time from Profile. Deleting frees your handle, deletes your private library, and resolves your catalogue credit to Anonymous contributor.
A handle can be removed by the developer where these terms are broken.
Changes
The date at the top is the last time these terms changed. Anything material is noted in the app's release notes, not slipped in here.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of protections you have under the law of the country you live in.
